The pageantry world is no stranger to glamour and “eyebrow-raising questions.” Still, recent events surrounding the resignations of Miss USA 2023 Noelia Voigt and Miss Teen USA 2023 UmaSofia Srivastava have ushered in a critical moment of introspection and reflection in the pageant industry. At the Queen Beauty Network (QBN), we stand at the forefront of redefining what it means to be part of such a powerful platform with many incredible individuals. We hope to share more about these recent, life-changing events and the impact these reverberations have had on various individuals, both those and those not directly involved.
The Miss USA 2023 and Miss Teen USA 2023 Resignations Are Announced
In both bold and courageous moments, Noelia Voigt and UmaSofia Srivastava stepped down from their titles within days of each other, citing misalignments with their personal values and the direction of the pageant organization. Voigt's resignation was particularly striking, as there is a speculated embedded hidden message within her statement, spelling out "I AM SILENCED," which has sparked widespread dialogue about the pressures and restrictions faced by pageant titleholders nationally.
Voices of Courage and Change
These resignations have highlighted issues within the pageant industry and showcased these resilient women's bravery and integrity. Voigt and Srivastava have expressed unwavering commitment to mental health and personal advocacy throughout the course of this decision. Their actions clearly demonstrate a growing demand for transparency and character within the industry, echoing QBN’s mission to empower women to use their platforms for advocacy, change, and, thus, liberation.
A Shift in Titleholder Representation
Within three days of Voigt's resignation, the first runner-up of Miss USA 2023, Miss Hawaii Savannah Gankiewicz, stepped in as Miss USA 2023 until the next national pageant, currently set for August 2024. Our team at QBN sends our congratulations to the titleholder.
The first runner-up of Miss Teen USA 2023, Miss New York Teen Stephanie Skinner, declined the offer to accept the national title, stating on Instagram, "In light of recent events, I have decided to decline the title of Miss Teen USA 2023. This was not an easy decision. I hope for respect of my choice that this was a decision I never asked to make." We honor Stephanie for her decision to focus on herself and her studies abroad, and we wish her the best on her new and exciting journey.
Where Do We Stand?
The resignations of Noelia Voigt and UmaSofia Srivastava are not just endings but the beginning of a new narrative in pageantry that QBN is proud to be part of.
We believe in using one’s voice to make a difference in what is right for oneself and the greater good of others in our circle. Our platform encourages an environment where women are seen, heard, and valued for their contributions as unique and beautiful individuals.
